A goal can be a powerful motivator, focusing the mind and dictating the most efficient training. Any decision you need to make, can be weighed against the goal, any fork that leads to a greater chance of success then it must be followed.
Alpine races will send one to the hills, flat races will necessitate making friends with someone who owns a moped/motorbike.
So I'm left with a conundrum, I've registered for the Single Speed World Championships in Rotorua New Zealand later this year, but don't know how I should train.
Should I rail trails?
Or wail on ale?
Oh crap, I still need to organise a dress!

Specificity - effective training requires specificity. You need to be riding trails and drinking beer while wearing your dress.
